Hah, That's great, but I'm not at all surprised.

That's just too sweet... I'm all for individual choice, but Hummers are for total dickheads.

Hummers (the H2) are cheap in quality...(not price) if you've seen one in an accident you'll know, versus a Ford Expedition going at the same speed.

I wonder what dumbass would get the H3, when there are SUVs like the Honda CRV out there.

I can understand grade school students being concerned with brand names for status symbols. However, I'm amazed that any grown adult would buy a crappy vehicle purely because the name attached has a status symbol. While at the same time there are cheaper higher quality alternatives.

To be completely honest... i think the CRV is ugly as fuck and says soccer mom all over it...
I would easily get an H3 over a Honda CRV... also...

people don't buy Hummer, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Infinity, Cadillac, Benz, etc... because they couldn't find or didn't know about a lower cost alternative... they buy them because cars ARE status symbols, whether you'd like to believe that or not. When how much you can spend no longer is a factor in how people perceive your personal wealth... then thats when people don't feel the need to put down for an expensive car.

As for assuming "sane" adults don't think about this... they do. YOU just don't care what kind of car you drive. In fact, i'm 100% sure that you'd feel alright driving your date to a nice restaurant in a 1991 honda hatchback with 1 hubcap and a fucked up paint job.

Well, I think both are ugly, but if I had to pick I'd pick the more reliable Honda

Right I said this. My amazement was due to the fact that people are buying these crap cars for status symbols.

Too bad you are wrong. I wouldn't be caught dead in a piece of junk like that. In fact the whole point of my post was that people were going out of their way to buy a piece of junk just for the status symbol. Just because the car looks nice on the outside doesn't mean it's the same under the hood. Some of these cars are legitimately nice well made luxury cars. I'm not going to criticize somebody for buying a beautiful piece of engineering if money isn't an issue. But to buy low quality cars with a hefty price tag just for the name is idiotic.

...

I understood what you were saying and couldn't agree more. The vast majority of people care what car they drive, and that's a good thing. If people didn't care, the Pinto would still be in production. However, to buy a piece of shit because of the status the name gives you is ridiculous.

I pretty much don't give a shit about cars. If one can get from B to A safely, I like it. The only exception is the VW Beetle, which is the only car that I've ever liked "just because". It's lucky that it's a good car, safe, and easy to work on as well.

Yea, I thought I was clear enough. Maybe g9, was just being melodramatic I'd say that fact that there is a large enough group keeping these lower quality status vehicles popular, says there are a lot of people that don't really pay much attention to what car they are really buying.

While my major concern is having a vehicle that gets from point A to B safely and I don't care about the things most car people care about. That doesn't mean I don't care about what I drive. Just like I take the time to make sure my apartment looks fairly neat and clean, my clothes are in good shape, etc... I want my vehicle to look the same. Sure, you won't give a 2001 Honda Civic a second look, but I'm going to do what I can to take care of it.

While I may not appreciate cars as works of art like some. I completely understand how somebody could be interested in old muscles cars and as I've already stated, high quality modern cars.
